Ghent of Norfolk
Recently several friends asked me to write blogs about food and traveling around North America and Northern Italy. And here they are; I named them “from USA with Love” and “The Northern Italian Weekender.”
Traveling from the US Capital of Washington D.C. on June 25 I traveled south in direction Mississippi passing Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Norfolk is the home port for many Navy vessels and submarines, besides being the home of many sailors it is also the interesting home base of many Italians. It has a fine art museum, the Chrysler Art Museum (http://www.chrysler.org), an interesting water front harbor shopping and restaurant area and an old part of town called Ghent which reminds me the old Dutch cities in Holland.
Virginia Beach has beaches and water front boulevards and hotels for those who like to spend time near the ocean or wish to lay under the shining sun, or drive a car or bicycle back and forward to see people and visit eateries and restaurants. I wish the Jewish Mother was still open; there Ruben sandwiches were great.
